My Under Stairs Playhouse Reveal

We built our house in 2015, but like many when building a new home, initially we left the basement unfinished. When I realized we would have “storage” space under the stairs I knew I did not want to use it for storage. Years ago I had been to a gathering at a home where there was the sweetest little playhouse under the basement stairs. The couple who lived there had children that had long been out of the house… but that day it was the gathering place for all the grandchildren. That image never left me. When I realized we would have this little nook area under our stairs I knew exactly how I wanted to finish it off eventually.

The exterior of the playhouse mimics the exterior of our home. I thought doing this would give it a sense of belonging in the home, rather than just being a random playhouse. The shingles are even made from the same LP Smartside that we used on the actual house. Eventually I hope to work with my eldest daughter on doing something fun with the interior decor. Maybe a cute wallpaper, twinkle lights, and kid sized furnishings.
